Big plans this weekend? If you enjoy the outdoors and meeting new people, maybe its time to give disc golf a whirl. It's one of the fastest growing sports in the U.S.
Shane Seal has been ranked as high as 4th in the world and is undefeated in his last four tournaments.
Pro disc golfer Shane Seal loves the sport for its camaraderie, diversity, and travel opportunities. He started playing in college as a way to meet people. "Went to my first tournament and I ended up winning it, in the amateur division. And I was hooked. I’m pretty competitive. If you keep score, I’m in."
A little patience is required when sharing the course.
Disc golf is similar to standard golf. You tee off at a designated spot and then continue to throw until you get your disc into the basket. “My wife doesn’t really play disc golf but she comes and plays with me and she probably has more fun than I do. She’s just out there enjoying the scenery.”

Seal is a system engineer for Apple in K-12 education markets in Louisiana and Mississippi. “Schools close up at 4 o’clock. Those are my customers, so then I’m looking for the local course in whatever town I’m in.”

“Disc sports have given me a lot of confidence,” says the former introvert. “Now I just walk up and say, hey can you tell me where hole one is? Would you mind if I tag along?” Seal is paying it forward by teaching Disc Golf 101 at Pearl River Community College in Mississippi. He designed the curriculum and started a scholarship program for it, with help from his sponsor Discraft.
